Respite Care & Family Support Resources
Eligible families may have access to Flex Funds and short-term respite care through our community partners. Availability is subject to program eligibility, authorization, availability of funds, and applicable program rules — and our team can help you get connected with the right resource.

Through our partnership with Primary Care Solutions, children, teens, and families can connect with professional mental and behavioral health services designed to support emotional wellness, positive behavior, and healthy development.
Services may include:

Respite Care for Families
Through our partnership with Caring Companions Care Center, eligible families can access OhioRISE respite services that provide short-term support and relief for caregivers.
Respite support may include:
- Short-term respite care for eligible youth
- Safe and supportive supervision
- Structured recreational and enrichment activities
- Positive social interaction and engagement
- Community-based activities and experiences
- Support for children’s individual needs
- Temporary relief and additional support for caregivers
- Coordination to help families access available respite services
- Services based on OhioRISE eligibility, authorization, and program requirements

What is OhioRISE?
OhioRISE (Resilience through Integrated Systems and Excellence) is a specialized Ohio Medicaid program — delivered through Aetna Better Health of Ohio — for children and youth with significant behavioral health needs. It coordinates care across schools, child protection, juvenile justice, developmental disabilities, and mental health or addiction services so families get one plan built around your child.
Who may qualify
- Ages 0–20 and eligible for Ohio Medicaid
- Significant behavioral health or substance use needs
- Involved with multiple systems (schools, courts, child services)
- At risk of, or returning from, out-of-home placement
- Identified through a CANS assessment

The CANS assessment
The Ohio Child and Adolescent Needs and Strengths (CANS) assessment identifies your child's strengths and needs, determines OhioRISE eligibility, and guides the care plan. You can request one through your managed care organization, Aetna Better Health of Ohio, a local care management entity, the Medicaid Consumer Hotline, or your behavioral health provider — and our team can help you get started.
Eligibility for OhioRISE and related services is determined by the applicable program and authorized entities. Discovering Minds can help families connect with resources but does not guarantee eligibility, authorization, funding, or services.
